Jamie Shadowlight explores and expands the context of the violin in imaginative ways. She is an artist in flow, creating live music that is uplifting and empowering. An NS Design Artist, she mainly plays a CR5 string electric violin named badass and an old French acoustic violin named Excelsior. She makes her living playing, touring, recording and sharing her experience through teaching. Over the years, she has gained recognition in the world as an artist of quality and soul. Her eclectic and widely diverse range of sound has opened the door to playing everything from reggae, hip hop, americana, classical, jazz, fusion and rock. She loves to live and create in flow, a place where discipline meets surrender.

Making music, one note at a time 

Shadowlight loves to explore and expand the context of the violin in music in imaginative ways. Born in South Korea, Jamie Shadowlight moved to the United States at the age of 2. She started playing classical violin at age 5 and by the age of 12, was known as an award winning violinist in LA, winning the Grand Prize for the LA/KOREAN Times Concerto Competition, and the Gold Medal for her trio in the Bach Festival, among many others.
She has created a unique electric violin sound that has touched and moved the hearts and feet of tens of thousands of people over the years. Her tone is filled with soul, love, joy and passion. After creating a strong presence in San Diego and Los Angeles, she has spent the past few years touring around the US and the world playing with various bands, mainly with world fusion rockers Todo Mundo (now called WITHN ) from playing at The San Diego Symphony, opening for The Roots to close out the Wichita River Festival in Kansas to headlining the Smoking Dragon Festival in the mountains of South Africa on New Year’s Eve 2017. She has rocked Lightning in A Bottle, SSBD, Joshua Tree Music Festival, GuitarFish, and Lucidity.
She has been a featured guest with legendary bassist 5 time Grammy Award Winner Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers and Bob Francheschini, Allison Krauss’ banjo legend, Tony Furtado, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Hirie, Zappa guitarist Mike Keneally, jazz saxophonist Daniel Jackson, Broadway Star Ben Vereen, Shirley Horn bassist Marshall Hawkins and has worked extensively with Grammy Winning producer and guitarist Larry Mitchell, world reknowned percussionist Monette Marino, trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, jazz pianist Mikan Zlatkovich, recorded with DJ Captain Planet, National Geographic Explorer Albert Lin, contrabassist Bert Turetzky, Sarah Vaughan bassist Bob Magnusson and many more outstanding artists who are raising the vibrations of this planet through music and their actions. She is an active member in the conscious hip hop band, Kiyoshi (opening for Ozomatli, Everlast) and world fusion band, Todo Mundo (now called WITHN). She played violiddle for Americana band The Western Collective (Hearts and Dreams.) She has been nominated for 3 San Diego Music Awards over the years and played on several winning artist’s albums.
Shadowlight just completed an international tour to Canada and down the West Coast US with the stellar roots reggae legends Hirie on the Michael Franti and Spearhead Stay Human Tour 2018. She had the honor of sharing the stage with Michael Franti in Vancouver and with Rebelution singer Eric Rachmany with Hirie at Reggae Rise Up in Utah.
She has been the featured artist in KSDS’ City Stories, Hidden San Diego, Vanguard Culture, San Diego Union Tribune, PBS, The Troubadour, Grimey Goods and the LA times amongst other publications.
She has played solo electric violin for countless events and charities over the past 10 years, from Hands of Peace, Miracle Babies, the World Passion Project, the LA Convention Center Fitness Expo, San Diego Magazine, San Diego Convention Center, Modern Luxury Magazine, Balboa Park, UCSD, weddings, parties and more.
Eclectic, creative and energetic, with a talent for listening to what any given moment needs to keep the energy going, she brings music to life.
